EYE UPDATE!!!
Okay well our lil man went back to the eye doctors today, a week earlier than planned, but we got a little scared. For us it seemed like the first two weeks we had one baby and these last two weeks there was a significant change in the way he was seeing. And it seems we were right. Braelyn is still as happy as ever and Lord knows we are soo blessed, however it was obvious that he was focusing on our voices and not on our faces. He seemed to be a little less vocal too. Friday, Braelyn's mommy called his eye doctor.. ( and I have to say that this doctor took time out after hours to completely explain things and went out of his way to ease our fears, we appreciate him so much and thank him for that).. He explained that he thought that, what we were fearing was okay and Braelyn was just reacting to the hemorrhage that he now had to look thru to see. He told us for Braelyn it was liked looking thru wax paper. He let us know that come Monday that we could call and get Brae seen this week, rather than waiting till next week. Well today was the day and the news is not great but it is far from being horrible. Braelyn did fine thru the exam and the results are;
In his left eye where the scar tissue has attached to the retina, the doctor does not believe that it is to the point where it is pulling so hard that it will detach the retina. He does however believe that it is shifting it. We know that this eye will always be Braelyn's weaker eye. But we are also being told that he should be able to see thru it. The doctor does not feel at this point and does not think it will be any time soon that he will need to have surgery on it. Braelyn will have to learn how to control it and we will def. have to do some strengthening of the eye itself.
Now for his "good eye". The hemorrhage that appeared on his last visit, has not really cleared itself very much. Braelyn is not able to see thru the hemorrage very well. Here's where the wax paper comes in. The abnormal eye movements that he appeared to be doing to us, was his way of trying to see around it. He can see around the edges of the hemorrage and that is what the doctor feels he is doing. We have to take him back on the 25th and if at that point if it has not cleared to the doctors liking, then he WILL have to do surgery on that eye. (SCARY)...He again has re-assured us that he does not feel that Braelyn is going to have any blindness. There is always that risk, but he feels his sight is safe.
The doctor also recommended that we elevate Braelyn's head when he is sleeping or just laying down, either on his back or stomach. The incline will help the hemorrhage to dissolve itself.
He has been in Little Rock since Tuesday and is coming home tomorrow..aaaawww I can't wait to get my hands on him. As tiring as it can be sometimes, I am just soo grateful for this little miracle and miss him when he's gone.
Christy said he has done really good since he has been up there and is being very vocal!! Not crying, just letting you know he's there....lol
Oh yeah I forgot..Braelyn is now 8 pounds and 13 ounces...YEEEAAAAHHH he gained....guess the rice did some good. It also didn't hurt that we increased his feeds to 80 ccs. and starting this week coming up, we will go up to 85 or 90!! Can you believe that Braelyn is now 8 pounds and 1 ounce bigger than he was at birth. He was officially 7 months old on the 5th and on the 9th he has been home 1 full month. He may be really small for 7 months but he is huge compared to where he started this journey.
Sorry I haven't put any new pics up, hope to do that really soon, maybe I'll fish around when I finish this blog and see if there is any new ones we can post!
Well I guess that is it for now...Thanks again for checking and for the prayers and support. Hope to be back real soon...HUGS Granny

Glad to see he is gaining some weight again. That must be relief.
We hope and pray that his eyes get better. He is always in our prayers.
Thank you for your post on our blog. It really meant a lot to me.
Sometimes (even now that Sarah is home), it is hard to be that pilar of strength I was when we were in the NICU. It is posts like yours that help me when I am having a bad day. Sarah is still only 9 lbs 3 oz. All the dr's say she is doing great but I still always have that G tube concern in the back of my mind. I guess she is just a really slow to gain weight baby cuz she is eating ok (about 20 oz. a day).
What can I say, even when you get them home, you always worried. Se la vi.
Sending love and kisses for the growing little man!
